Here is my birthday girl this morning ready for school! I can't believe it's been six years. It's so cliche, I know, to say "just yesterday I was changing your diaper..." But, I truly understand that phrase now. I stopped myself last week several times and thought "Wow, I've been a mom for six years?!" It's so surreal because it doesn't even feel like it's been that long. If I think about it six years is not even a lot. We've still got many more years ahead of us!
Last night I planned to write this birthday post along with Melanie's birth story. But, this morning my topic quickly changed because of a conversation that went like this:
Me: Wake up, baby it's time for school!
Melanie: Rise and shine!
Me: Do you know what today is?
Mia: *still fighting sleep* it's your birthday!
Melanie: ugh Mooooom I know that.
Me: Happy birthday!
Melanie: What kind of party I'm gonna have?
Me:...we had your party on Sunday already.
Melanie: The celebration?
Me: Yeah, that was for you.
Melanie: But for my birthday today what kind of party I'm gonna have?
My kids do not understand the difference between a birthday and a birthday celebration. Usually, for us, the two don't interlink together. For example, we celebrated Melanie's birthday this past Sunday yet her birthday is today, a Tuesday. To both of my M&M's, the word birthday is automatically associated with a party, cake, balloons, the whole shebang. I have tried many, many ways to help them understand the difference and had no luck. So, I give up. Today we will be having another mini celebration. Hey, parties are fun! You will hear no complaints from me :)
A material girl has been born. This year, when you asked Melanie what she wanted for her birthday not a single toy was mentioned. Instead there were things like "shoes...high heels...clothes...a pedicure" (really, a pedicure!) It has begun. My six year old kid has become a fashion-aware little diva.
Pictures from Sunday-
Look at her show off that money. And the black wedges (her favorite present) were a gift from Mia. I have a pair that looks exactly like them and any opportunity to have a mini-me walking around is gold!
Showing sister some love for the shoes! And a picture from today before they headed off to school.
